7th March – Wild Wild Quest

Happy Monday!

We had a really great time at PC Gamer Weekender this past weekend and got some really great feedback on the latest build of Starbound, including the intro mission! We’re all flying out to San Francisco this weekend for GDC, so we’ve got a whole lot to get done this week. Busy busy times!

We’ve done a bunch of work on quest generation! NPCs on planets will generate quests for you that change based on what exists in that world.

We’ve also implemented a quest compass to help you better figure out where you’re supposed to go, and a quest tracker so that you can keep track of what you’ve got left to do.

Oh hey look, Tccoxon’s made a nifty video!

2nd March – Moth Friends

We’ve recently added a bunch of interesting crafting recipes, like these Moth Traps. If you lure moths into your Moth Trap, they will become your best friend and produce lots and lots of silk for you. Use moth silk to make clothing and armor! Moth friends are the best!

29th February – Clueless

Happy Monday!

SamuriFerret and Metadept have been working on something really cool! Here’s some insight into how Starbound’s main story questline will tie into the sandbox universe.

In the current stable build, accessing story missions is done by completing a series of quests, as well as showing the right citizens of the Outpost that you have the right tier of armour for a mission. For 1.0, the storyline missions will be entirely seperate from your progression in crafting and building. So how does it work?

clue1

Esther, unrivaled archaeologist and uncoverer of mysteries, is looking for an ancient relic. However, she doesn’t have all the information she needs to find where it is. That’s where you come in!

clue2

Using the inspect mode in villages, settlements and dungeons will show that some objects are highlighted differently – inspecting these will give Esther more information as to the location of the artifact!

clue3

As well as this, scanning certain may actually be much more informative than others. Objects like this are much rarer, though. Better get exploring!

clue4

When Esther has enough information, she’ll be able to determine the location and give you the co-ordinates. It’s entirely up to you how well equipped you are for the mission, so be prepared!

For anyone who plays on the nightly build, you can check out this feature this week. Keep in mind that it is a work in progress, so elements of it will continue to change, as usual!
