Starbound Pre-Order FAQ
Q. If I buy the game today, when will I get to play Starbound?A. You'll be able to play the game via Steam Early Access right away! You may prefer to wait until the game is finished, though, in which case you may be waiting until 2015 (probably).
Q. Which platforms does the game support?A. Windows, Mac and Linux! Post-release, we're looking into releasing on PS4, Xbox One and other platforms.
Q. How many tracks are included in the Soundtrack?A. The preorder includes two soundtracks, the Starbound Soundtrack that contains 22 tracks and the Starbound Experimental Soundtrack that contains an additional 40. We hope to be adding additional tracks over time.
Q. Does my purchase include a Steam key?A. Yes! You'll receive a Steam key right away.
Q. What terms are there and can I get a refund?A. To use the Steam key (and so to play Starbound) you need to have a Steam account and those have their own terms. Once you've redeemed the key you aren’t entitled to a refund. You can see those terms here: http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/
Q. How come you're doing this Kickstarter style?A. We'd been financing the game out of our own pockets and a couple of our team members found themselves needing to take on second jobs. The pre-order ensured our devs could eat and sleep and continue to work on Starbound full-time.
Q. What if you don't get enough preorders, will the game be unfinished?A. We're going to finish Starbound no matter what! The success of the preorder and beta have even allowed us to move a lot of our team to a central office where we're able to work together more efficiently.
Q. Will I be notified when the game is available?A. Yes! We'll send you an email when the beta is ready to download and when a Steam key is available.
Q. How will I get access to the game, game keys and other rewards?A. When you complete your purchase, you should receive an email from Humble right away with a link to a page where you can redeem your Steam key, soundtrack download and other rewards.
Q. Are there any rules when it comes to naming NPCs?A. Only a few obvious ones: nothing vulgar, nothing under copyright or trademark and it can only consist of letters, no symbols.
Q. How does weapon/statue design work?A. We'll email you asking how you'd like the weapon to look and how you'd like it to function and we'll work with you to make sure the gun looks good and fits nicely into the rest of the game. Weapons and statues will be added in a later stage of the beta when we're not so focused on getting the rest of the game finished.
Chucklefish Purchase & Refund PolicyStarbound is still at beta -- it's not finished. So by downloading and using Starbound now you have to agree and accept that it is incomplete and may (and probably will) contain defects and errors. It may crash and / or cause data loss.
We are sorry if that happens so please back-up and safeguard all data and programmes on your computer and don't rely on the correct functioning or performance of Starbound. In simple terms you use, download and install Starbound at your own risk, knowing that it is provided as is.
Starbound is made available through Steam and so you will need a Steam account to play it and is governed by the Steam Subscriber Agreement which you can see here:
Please note that certain restrictions apply to sales of products sold digitally that might not otherwise apply to physical goods. Refunds will not be issued due to your dissatisfaction with Starbound or if your computer does not meet the minimum requirements. If you feel you qualify for a refund please contact Steam.
Specifically for refunds that all charges incurred on Steam, and all purchases made with the Steam wallet, are payable in advance and are not refundable in whole or in part, regardless of the payment method, except as expressly set forth in this agreement.
If you reside in the European Union and you purchase a product the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 may apply. What this means is that if you are an EU based user of Steam you have the right to withdraw from a purchase of digital content without charge and without giving any reason until the earlier of: a) delivery of the content has started or b) performance of the service has commenced for a period of fourteen calendar days, commencing on the day after the date of purchase. You do not have a right to withdraw from a transaction or obtain a refund once delivery of the content has started or the performance of the service has commenced or the 14 day period is over (whichever is the earlier) at which point your transaction is final.
