Cool! Love the temple in the background! Nice and green too. Is that a palm tree? Also, even though u can’t see the top of the spear, it looks very unique and tribeish. Keep up the good work!

Yes, but is it 2D? 3D sandbox games doesn’t need to be pixelated, but 2D sandbox games mostly are. Also, I can’t seem to find any information about this “Syarforge” you’re talking about. ._.

well, for me avian is no so interesting ! well there are bird with no fly and fight with lance and sword when we come with lasergun ! poor avians……. hope for there are great magic power !

I am totally going to play Avian, even if it’s the only other race in Starbound at release. Not sure whether I will be one of the Grounded, or, for the sake of power (it’s definitely a universal thing) join in their religion.

To be honest, furries are the only people who really pay me for art. That’s why I have an FA account to begin with. Nobody on DA was commissioning me. FA commissions pay for my rent and bills.

I don’t really consider myself a furry though. I appreciate good furry art, just like I appreciate any other good type of art, because it can be shiny and pretty.

I know plenty of non-furry people who have FA accounts and do furry art, because that’s where the money is for a lot of freelance illustrators. :d

I think it’s because so many artists feel that DA has just kinda become one big popularity contest, and you can’t make ends meet unless you have millions of pageviews.

FA has it’s drama and stuff, but if you keep your nose clean, you can stay out of situations that would cause drama. And I notice that furries appreciate artists more for skill and talent rather than being able to brag to other people about how they got art from such-and-such popular artist.

In my opinion, i think DA and FA are both as much of a drama bomb, poop flinging, e-peen competition as each other! But you’ve probably had more experience with them than me, and really, the type of “people” you have to deal with on both sites is pretty dependent on what kind of subjects you deal with in your art.

Great work–I love the lighting and composition.

I am incredibly excited about Starbound in a way I haven’t been excited about a game for years.

I have memories from my childhood of riding home in the back seat of the car with a new SNES game in my hands, tearing into the plastic to pore over the manual and tiny thumbnail screenshots on the back of the box, almost quaking with excitement.

Everything that Starbound promises to be just blows that out of the water. :D

It’s funny you mention this. Listening to the music on the soundcloud, I felt like some of this game’s soundtrack would feel JUST PERFECT coming out of an old Squaresoft game, most likely something along the lines of the SNES or PSX Mana games, or maybe even Chrono Trigger at times.

The developers of this and Terraria really seem to “get” retro games in a way many indie devs don’t, despite they try to emulate them. So far, Bastion and Cave Story are the only two other games I feel got this right, and it’s really nice to see more joining that club.

When Tiy originally described them to me and showed me the screenshots of them, he said that they were more Aztec/Mayan inspired, so I’ve been going off of that. C:

Awesome, but I’m still sticking to the notion that calling them “Avians” is like calling humans “Primates” … You should come up with a unique name for them and not just a real word that just describes them.

Well, naming them wasn’t my decision, but I do like Avian better than say, some sort of convoluted name for the race. It’s nice and simple, and straightforward. Maybe another name for them wouldn’t be a bad idea as long as it wasn’t too much of a try-hard lolserious name, but I think they’re sticking with Avian.

Just out of curiosity, and you don’t have to confirm, but are there going to be other playable anthro-animal races in this game?

I’m honestly not 100% sure, but I wouldn’t put it past them! Anthro animal races are usually the easiest kind of concept when it comes to alien races. I am hoping for more… ~alien~ races though, since it’s ~outer space~, but when you’re limited to just swapping the heads around (otherwise you have to make custom armor pixels), that can be a little iffy.

I can honestly say that in all my years of gaming, there has never been a game that even comes CLOSE to how desperately I want to play this game. It is a complete and total yearning of the spirit; a nagging spot in my psyche that is whispering ‘Until you play this game, you will never know true happiness.’
…
I’m sure this game, with all the genii behind it, will more than exceed my expectations.
