Introducing the Avians

Hello guys,

Today I want to introduce our first playable race, the Avians.

Avian culture revolves around the worship of Kluex, the winged god of the Aether. Avians believe they were stripped of their wings as punishment for entering the mortal world and will only regain their wings in the afterlife should they achieve absolution through worship.Throughout their history Avians have always been a primitive race, making little scientific progress. Avian numbers were beginning to dwindle when a superior race took pity and bestowed the gift of advanced technology upon them. This new found tech allowed the Avians to flourish and spread across the universe, building temples of worship as they go.

Avians soldiers are trained from birth to be fierce warriors and will protect their temples at any cost. Avian weaponry may look primitive at first glance, but the incorporation of advanced technology makes them particularly formidable. Avian generals forge wings for themselves that function much like jetpacks.

Though rare, Avians have been known to stray from their religious culture. Dubbed the grounded, these Avians become outcasts and find solace amongst other races.

A randomly generated, Avian temple.

Starbound Races

Meet the Races

In Starbound, you can choose from seven unique races, all with their own rich cultures and histories!

Human
Human_Banner In spite of their long and turbulent history, Humans tend to possess a lighthearted and optimistic outlook towards life and the Universe. Instead of focusing on expansion, humanity set about forming a society that would unite the people of the Universe – The Terrene Protectorate. Human_Character
Apex
Apex_Character A race of highly intelligent primates. For millennia, the Apex were close to human in appearance until a scientific breakthrough allowed them to trade physical devolution for intellectual evolution. Apex_Banner
Avian
Avian_Banner Avians are a race of colourful birdfolk whose tribal culture revolves around the worship of Kluex – the winged god of the Aether. Their soldiers are trained from birth to be fierce warriors who will protect their temples at any cost. Avian_Character
Hylotl
Hylotl_Character The peaceful Hylotl place a lot of value on the traditions of their ancestors and take great comfort in the arts. Originally dwelling on land, their passive nature made them easy prey for the Florans and they were driven beneath the waves, where they now thrive. Hylotl_Banner
Glitch
Glitch_Banner The Glitch were built in order to simulate a civilization. A fault in their programming caused them to become stuck early in the simulation, and to this day they are unable to shake their Medieval values and beliefs. Glitch_Character
Floran
Floran_Character Don’t be fooled by their peaceful appearance! Florans are known throughout the Universe to be aggressive, carnivorous hunters. Not particularly inventive on their own, they’re fond of stealing and adapting technology from people they’ve attacked. Floran_Banner
Novakid
Novakid_Banner The Novakids are a mystery to all – described as ‘interstellar gas-bag people’, they resemble volatile star matter, both physically and emotionally. While generally more intelligent than the “fleshier” races, their short attention spans and wild attitude means little of their history has been recorded. Novakid_Character

QUEST COMPLETE: Take a Look, it’s in a Book

fanfiction_questcomplete

In case you missed it, a few weeks ago we enlisted the help of the Starbound Universe’s many talented authors and poets to fix a very serious problem posed by a bookish Floran called Leyla Lotusbud – there just aren’t enough books to fill the countless libraries spanning the infinite void of space.

With nearly 300 entries, I think it’s safe to say we’ve completed Leyla Lotusbud’s quest! Nice work!

We had to pick just five entries in the end, and it was tough – they were all really fun to read! It largely came down to which entries would best fit in a library setting. Those five winners will get to pick out some super cool prizes from our friends at The Yetee. If you’ve won, keep an eye out for an email from us!
